Person Centred Support

Person centred support means different things to different people.  Here at Kingsley Specialists Services we believe wholeheartedly that person centred support is the only way of providing support to the people who live with us. The explanation we would use is that person centred support is a holistic approach that is focused on each person’s own unique qualities. Key points to this include: Looking to the individual first and then their specific support requirements – we never judge someone purely by their medical needs in the same way in which we would never judge a book by its cover.

Taking time to understand the individual’s own personality and the story of their personal history. To us, this means looking at the world from the person’s point of view and appreciating how they might be feeling. Person centred support comes from a service that allows people to feel safe and secure both physically and emotionally, by working towards enabling people to achieve their goals and aspirations, no matter what obstacles may be in the way.  This work is part is part of Kingsley Specialists Services on-going investment in our Learning Disability Strategy. The Strategy enhances the culture of care and support; delivers a true and meaningful person-centred and positive risk taking approach; nurtures staff and encourages the adaptation of the internal and external environments of the care services.

Kingsley Specialists Services management and staff at each service aim to work closely with partners, to improve the quality of life for everyone who lives with us. We have an established training programme which focuses on communication, emotional support and understanding skills which we believe are vital to provide person centred care.
